The Missing Seaweed

The rocky shores of the BC Central Coast looked different in the spring of 2016. All of a sudden, a seasonal staple food was missing.

What happened to the nori-like seaweed that was once so abundant?

The Heiltsuk, Wuikinuxv, and Haida Nations partnered with scientists from Hakai and UBC to investigate the mystery of its disappearance, and experiment ways to ensure the seaweed is available for people now and in generations to come.
